At home in the swamps

Yes the cypress are scenic,

But they make a bad home.

At least for humans, or lots of them anyway, because they are too wet. Take away the water and you lose the cypress too.

Seasonally speaking, cypress domes and strands (shown above) are among the only places left still holding water in the swamp. It’s been an early dry down so far thanks to our summer tropical no show and lack of moisture behind our dry season fronts. This last one was cold, yes, but also dry. (That’s in contrast to last year when the prevailing El NiƱo packed the blasts of cold air with rain on the front end.)

Not that you care if you’re an insect whose found a nice cypress home.

Talk about a room with a view!
