Black gold

Why is sugarcane grown in south Florida?

Part of the reason is its subtropical climate.

As rich as this soil looks,
its deficient in some trace nutrients

Also factoring is the interior peninsula’s wide expanse of open land.

Don’t forget the farm-friendly drainage system, too.

Not just sugarcane, but vegetables
and sod are also grown

And most of all its black gold.
