When people hear Everglades …
They normally think “East Coast.”

Map of the Greater Everglades
But when you look at a map of south Florida, a solid half if not more of the area we think of the Everglades Restoration area lies in the central and western part of the southern peninsula. I’m not saying that the Everglades isn’t East. All I’m say is it’s not “just” East. It’s also getting the water moving South, including the Western (some say Big Cypress) half of the restoration pie, and looking North to get the headwaters right. So next time you hear Everglades, maybe remember this map, and all directions: North, South, East — and especially West, i.e. the Big Cypress half.
