Exactly. The value of Periphyton is in preserving it right where it is, NOT harvesting it! I've learned that Periphyton is the essential last-step in water filtration, pulling out the nitrates so water entering Florida Bay from the Everglades is eutrophic. Nature's way of not providing food that would enable harmful algae blooms. So let's work to enable more sheet flow south of Lake Okeechobee, and let the Periphyton do its job.
