Gastropod graveyard

I don’t give a second thought to a clam at the beach.

But seeing one among the cypress is strange.

Here’s a rare find

Aren’t they filter feeders,

i.e. they do best where there is flow?

Summer sheetflow could suffice …

Or is it too slow?  Of course by spring the water is gone.  That can’t make them “happy as a clam” (as testified in the photo above).

As for the apple snails,

They are much more common to see.

As for apple snails,
I see them all the time.

Caveat: I find their empty shells all the time.

I’m still waiting to find one living on the inside.
