That’s because the honeybell is a tangelo.
It’s incredibly easy (and clean) to peel and has only a few seeds. Best of all is its juice which I can only describe as nectar sweet. Oranges are not native to Florida, but it was a Floridian who invented the honeybell, in Orlando, back in 1931. (My grandfather was 32 years old at the time. Did he ever eat a honeybell? I doubt it.)
Regardless, and semantic correctness not withstanding,
I think of it as our honorary orange.
