I'm shocked, and you're right: that was a ghost, and a friendly one too — it was quite sunny.
That's the type of formation I call a cloud carapace. The energy that went into forming it "left," leaving that shell of a vapor behind … making it sort of like a dead cloud. Very ghoulish!
