In this day of Interstate Highways, it’s easy to forget that railroad tracks were easier/cheaper to lay than good roads were to build. Even the hilly Ozarks were served by a railroad line long before they had decent roads. And, yes, our area had a narrow gauge line (called the Dinky Line) specifically for logging operations. Few traces of these railroads remain today.

Perhaps I should listen more carefully to the wind in the hills when the humidity is high.
