Leaning tower in the dome

Do all leaning cypress die?

In this case, at least, no.

It seems to be doing just fine, although eventually I would think that someday it will fall. Presumably there won’t be anybody there to hear it splash (wet season) or thud (dry season) when it does.

The photo below gives a view of the bromeliad resting on its trunk, looking inward towards the pond apple forest that lies in the center of the dome.

That may also provide a hint into what may have gone wrong:

The peat and water are deeper in the pond apple swamp than where the cypress usually grow.
