Low crest for the swamp?

No one month will make or break the swamp,

But two can conspire to slow it down.

Chart of rain totals for September and October, 1990 to present

That’s what’s happening this September so far.

Usually September is the month that water rises up into the high-ground pinelands of the swamp, with any October rains we get either boosting it up another notch or, at the very least, helping to sustain full saturation (and setting the initial condition, i.e. the “starting stage”) for long dry season to come.

Look for this year’s “starting stage” to be lower than normal unless we get some big October rains.
