Mangrove tunnel maze

Here’s a short video of one of the many mangrove tunnels contained in Big Cypress National Preserve’s Turner River, filmed by Paul Murphy.

That to plentiful February rains, river stage is just right for navigating through the tunnels. Toward the end of the dry season, the channel becomes too shallow to float a canoe on. And during peak water, usually late summer and early fall, river stage is too high to comfortably squeeze through, … not to mention the mosquitoes.

But right now conditions are perfect, and mosquitoes are scarce. So plan a paddle if you can.
