Wetlands are usually considered stagnant,

Except in south Florida where the shallow water at its peak actually flows.

This map provides an exaggerated view
of high and low spots in the swamp

That’s happening now in Big Cypress National Preserve.

The map above shows three such flow paths.

Each discharges into the downstream estuary of the 10,000 Islands below.
