Multi-functional weir

Faka Union Canal is “up and flowing” at full wet-season capacity.

Here’s how it looks now,


And here’s how it looked at the end a last dry season a half year ago.

That’s not freshwater cresting up at the top of the weir.

It’s the salty stuff!


That makes this a multi-functional weir:

During the wet season, it’s used to measure freshwater flowing down,

And during the dry season, it stops a rising high tide from flowing up.
