Red, black … and white?

Red mangroves are easy:

Distinctive “rust” colored prop roots makes them hard to mistake,


Black mangroves, too:

They have pneumatophores that stick straight up.


As for the white mangroves …

I thought I spotted one here until a botanist set me straight:

“That’s a red mangrove,” he noted upon seeing the perfectly white trunk.


“Except for this charcoal-colored stem on the left” he said, pointing to it on the screen.

“That’s a black mangrove.”
