Seaweed in the surf

Seaweed doesn’t sound so bad …

On the other hand algae does.

The problem is that seaweed is a form of algae.

In the gulf seaweed periodically washes up in the surf and sometimes up on the sand which if it sits there long enough can start to stink. I’m unsure what’s behind this recent wave – whether it’s a change in the currents, or the result of an offshore storm, or due to rising water temperatures, or a sign that the water quality in some way has changed.

While it didn’t bother me much swimming and it was kind of fun (if also slimy) to collect, seaweed is never my favorite sight …

Although it beats seeing tar balls instead.
