Somehow in historical times things did not seem to change so quickly. Gradual changes are so much easier to accomodate.
Since the industrial revolutin changes have been speeding up and with the advent of the space and computer age they have become so rapid that the world has almost become an alien place where harly a landmark is left standing and familiar landscapes are covered in skyscrapers and tar.
