Spider-lily

One of two common “swamp-lilies” in south Florida, Hymenocallis palmeri is also known as Alligator-lily. The common name spider-lily must refer to the flower’s resemblance to a six-legged spider. It is seen here flowering within days after a fire in a short-hydroperiod prairie.
