Spring versus sheet flow

How is it that Florida’s spring are simultaneously …

Refreshingly cool during the summer and comfortably warm during the winter?

The above hydrograph compares seasonal variation in discharge of freshwater flow in the form of sheet flow in Big Cypress National Preserve (green) to spring flow from Silver Springs (blue).  Sheetflow rises and falls with the rainfall whereas spring flow remains relatively constant all year round.

Answer:

Because they are the same temperature all year round.

Not coincidentally they maintain the same flow rate, too.

The secret to that is that they are ground-water fed.
