Thanks for clarifying and adding your insights Bill.

My initial thought was that mosquitoes would make for a good (and plentiful) food source, but maybe the thicker ground cover is a problem … and from what you describe it sounds like they are more common in central and northern Florida, where flooding isn’t as high.

In the Big Thicket (Texas) my impression was the Wetland Pine Savannah wasn’t as wet as in the Everglades …, but that could warrant a closer look, especially up on the pine islands.
