This is why I like to bring my trusty Garmin GPSMap 60CSX with me when I'm in woods like that…keeps me from getting lost (has circuitry that can get a pretty good satellite lock even in dense woods). Of course, a compass and a general sense of which direction you came from and the direction back would be almost as useful.
