For over a century …
The Lone Cypress has stood its ground.

Or in other words, the tree has stayed put as the water level around it dropped out from under its roots by some ten feet.

Once a navigational marker,
The Lone Cypress stands today as a hydrologic reminder …
Of Lake Okeechobee before it was drained.
I was out there a few years ago and we stopped to see the tree because you had written about it. It was really cool.
Very cool, thanks Jeff. It’s pretty mind blowing to see, and I think points to how much drainage has occurred that today everyone thinks of as high and dry land. It’s really eye opening and hard to visualize at the same time.
