Years ago on a family trip to Sanibel, my older son went paddling around near shore searching for shells while I helped my younger son try to swim. Suddenly I heard the older boy yelling, "DAD! DAD!" I rushed over to see he was holding a huge lightning whelk, a look of fear and confusion on his face. He said when he picked this gigantic shell, he thought he'd found a big prize for his collection except…"It squirted me in the face!" I showed him that the shell was still occupied and explained that this was one shell we'd take a picture of and then put back. He's nearly a teenager now but we still laugh about the day a lightning whelk squirted him.
