Yes, and add south Jersey tomatoes, and the corn for that matter, to the list.

Of course I am a Maryland native so am partial to the produce grown in what I call “The Mudderland” (Harford County and Baltimore County). We have a family expression that the corn of the cob — when it’s in season and shucked fresh: that it’s “sweet as candy.”

As a kid, I never understoon that expression … it sort of defied logic to a 10 year old.

Fast forward a few decades and its one of my top ten phrases. I say it all the time.

And yes, I’d say that Jersey peaches, just like the Pennsylvania ones, when picked fresh, are “sweet as candy.”

As for which one is best: I’ll leave that to the experts!
